Strategic Priority Setting Working Group led by Steve Allan & Doug Schweitzer
Could we create a vision/strategy for active citizens from cradle to grave, that becomes part of our brand, and somehow encompasses kid sports, active citizens, amateur sports, high-performance sports, and professional sports? A vision that would set an aspiration for us to be the healthiest city in the county, with an outcome of reducing healthcare costs, as well as attracting and retaining talent to our city. I think we can establish this to define who we really are as a city. And if it is a story and a vision that every Calgarian could see themselves in, then it would be easier to make the case for infrastructure investment for all citizens, plus professional sports, and would also enhance our capacity as a games-hosting city.
Measuring Community Prosperity - Summer Working Group led by Mary Moran
Although many organizations measure and report on elements of this through things like Citizen Satisfaction, Vital Signs, State of the Economy, and Sustainable Calgary, there is a lack of harmonization on community prosperity (and certainly no tie to how an active economy contributes to community prosperity) which is contributing to confusion among policymakers and Calgarians on which measures actual matter and therefore what investments should be made to ensure we are consistently measuring our community prosperity and sense of attachment to this city. How do we measure success through economic, health, social well-being and environmental prosperity?
